This picture was taken at Grant's Market (near where Mercer Mall is today) at about 6:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1966 after the store had closed. It was the custom for Mr. Grant to hand out Christmas bonuses on this date. The box in his hand contains the cash bonuses.

This store was in operation until 1968, when a new store was built beside this one. In 1973 both buildings were torn down to make way for the new U.S. 460 highway. W.R. Grant and his son Randle built a new store in Green Valley, which is still in operation.
